Aad Goudappel

Aad Goudappel is a freelance illustrator living and working from Rotterdam, Netherlands. Working from his home studio, Goudappel’s pithy and powerful work has been honoured with numerous awards from Society of Illustrators, American Illustration, and 3 X 3, amongst others.

Goudappel graduated from the Willem de Kooning Academy in Rotterdam, additionally he completed courses at Camberwell College of Art in London, England and the Art Institute in Boston, America. Some of his clients include WIRED, Wall Street Journal, Fortune, Toshiba, and Herman Miller.

Bright colours, clear shapes, and strong use of negative space. Goudappel economic style masterfully communicates ideas. Coupling the ordinary with the abstract to present a message which is both sticking and thought-provoking. The friendly and joyous nature of his illustrations can oftentimes lure you into a false sense of security. Though much of his work is light-hearted, the pleasant appearance of his work is used to great effect when dealing with serious subject matters. This is especially true of his child abuse and autism pieces, which instantly stop you in your tracks. Demanding you to think and spurring an emotional response.

You can find more of Aad Goudappel’s illustrations on his website and follow him on Twitter.
