10 Years with Hayao Miyazaki

Under the condition that he filmed alone, Kaku Arakawa was permitted a rare opportunity to capture Miyazaki at work and outside the Ghibli studio. The 4-part series spans the making of Ponyo on the Cliff by the Sea and The Wind Rises. It offers a unique insight into Miyazaki’s creative process, habits and motivations.

10 Years with Hayao Miyazaki is the second documentary on the Academy Award-winning animator directed by Arakawa. His previous 2016 film, The Never-Ending Man: Hayao Miyazaki accounts Miyazaki’s decision to retire.

The series, made for the national Japanese broadcaster NHK, is available for everyone to watch online for free.

You can watch the series on the NHK website.
