Sarah Hankinson is a fashion illustrator based in Melbourne, Australia. She combines typographic and floral elements with careful line work and unfettered splashes of watercolour. Her merry mixed media artwork has attracted clients including Harper’s Bazaar Magazine, Maybelline New York-Austraila and Harrods.
Hankinson attended the Chisholm Institute, to study Graphic Design. However, after feeling it wasn’t quite right for her, she moved over to the Illustration course. Finding it a much better fit, she dug her heels in and picked up as much as she could from her teachers. Learning skills and techniques as well as business and professionalism.
After graduating, Hankinson was focused on becoming a freelance illustrator. Building on her portfolio and consistently contact clients. Her first published illustration was in Australian magazine Girlfriend. Hankinson’s path into fashion illustration happened naturally and almost unnoticed. A lover of fashion and a daughter of a dressmaker. From young she was surrounded by patterns and fabrics. Her love flowed into her work and her clients noticed.
In 2012, Sarah Hankinson along with her sister, and fellow artist, Bree Hankinson and artist manager Belinda Galloway co-founded The Windsor Workshop. A creative studio space for artists in Melbourne, that also hosts workshops and events.
