Norman Perceval Rockwell (1834-1978)

Happy birthday Norman! I think one would be hard-pressed to find a person who hasn’t heard the name Norman Rockwell. His illustrations are synonymous of his generation. He produced over an amazing 4,000 pieces in his lifetime, most of which are in public collections. His work has inspired illustrators and filmmakers alike, has attracted celebrity collectors and has sold for $15.4 million! For me, it’s his careful draftsmanship and poignant compositions that distinguish him from his contemporaries. To read more about him check out the Norman Rockwell Museum’ website.

“Some people have been kind enough to call me a fine artist. I’ve always called myself an illustrator. I’m not sure what the difference is. All I know is that whatever type of work I do, I try to give it my very best. Art has been my life.”
