AOI World Illustration Awards Exhibition 2016
Somerset House, London, 1 – 29 August 2016
The World Illustration Awards Exhibition returns to Somerset House for a fifth year. This unique exhibition, now in its 40th year, presents over 50 of the very best artworks across the diverse field of illustration. Selected from submissions to this year’s World Illustration Awards, the breadth of work is celebrated across 8 categories, including advertising, children’s books, editorial and public art.
The Enchanting World of Shirley Hughes
Illustration Cupboard, London, 3 August – 3 September 2016
Over the past fifty years Shirley Hughes has enchanted, delighted and fascinated readers both young and old. Key works from Shirley Hughes’ archive will be returning to the walls of the Illustration Cupboard, where visitors will be able to view Shirley’s evocations of British life through well-known and much loved characters. On Saturday 13 August, at 3pm, Shirley and her daughter Clara Vulliamy will be at the gallery signing copies of their joint Dixie O’Day series, as well as Shirley’s own books, including rare pre-publication copies of Alfie and his Very Best Friend. Comics and Manga Workshops for Kids & for Teenagers
House of Illustration, London, 4 August 2016
Join recently published and award-winning manga artist Jade Sarson for a fascinating and fun-packed workshop to create and develop your own comic. Kids (8 – 12 year olds) will learn everything they need to know to create a comic book from scratch – from designing characters and layouts to the storyline and text. Teenagers (13 – 16 year olds) will create and develop your their comic characters, strips and books. Learn how to develop interesting comic characters and portray a range of emotions appropriate to different scenes, settings and narrative developments. The workshops will last for 3 hours, with The kids workshop starting at 10:30am and The teenagers workshop starting at 2:30pm.
Comic Creators Day 3
Cartoon Museum, London, 13 August 2016
Celebrate the Cartoon Museum’s third Comic Creators Day! The Comic Creators project, supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund, enables the Cartoon Museum to purchase and exhibit a large number original pieces of comic artwork by British artists. Comic Creators Day is your opportunity to see all the great original comic artwork they’ve collected over the past few months! Special guests will include Mark Buckingham (Miracleman, Fables) and Laura Howell (The Beano). Admission is free between the hours of the event (1:30 – 5:30).
