1. Marie Thorhauge

Marie Thorhauge is a Danish designer and visual development artist. She got her start in animation in 2009 as Head of Design at the Oscar Nominated studio Cartoon Saloon. There she designed characters for the animated feature Song of the Sea (2014), and concept art for preschool tv series, Puffin Rock.

Thorhauge studied Character Animation, with a focus on design, at The Animation Workshop. She contributed character design, concepts and final backgrounds to her graduation film, Leitmotif, which was screened at Annecy 2009. Another of her graduation films was Sylfidden, for which she created background design, color styling and final backgrounds. Sylfidden was also screened at Annecy 2009, as well as Cannes 2009.

In addition to Cartoon Saloon, Thorhauge has previously worked with Cartoon Network, Disney Channel, Harper Collins, SYBO Games, and LAIKA. In 2015, she started her own company, Koncept ARTBYTHORHAUGE. As of May this year, she began working as a Background designer at award-winning animation studio Flaunt Productions.

Thorhauges work has strong Nordic influences, drawing from its folk art, mythology and landscapes in particular. Her clean flowing graphic lines create eye-catching and fanciful characters and environments. This made her work a perfect match for the fantastical folklore journey of Ben and Saoirse in Song of the Sea. So it was no surprise that the animated feature was Nominated for an Annie Award “Outstanding Achievement for Character Design in an Animated Feature Production” category. Thorhauges work on Puffin Rock also received an Annie Award nomination for “Outstanding Achievement, Production Design in an Animated TV/Broadcast Production” category
