Apolline Etienne is a French freelance illustrator and concept artist based in Edinburgh, Scotland. She began her career in art as an abstract painter. She exhibited her paintings in the UK, France, New York and the Netherlands. However, the desire to tell stories led her to pursue illustration and study animation in Brussels.
Etienne works traditionally and digitally. Her illustrations are inspired by fairytale and folklore. Many of her colourful landscapes are washed in golden hour hues, giving them a fanciful feeling. Her beautiful silhouetted figures often look like paper cut-outs. Full of life, their flatness and ambiguity just makes them that much more enchanting.
