Geist is an atmospheric, short animated thriller. It was directed by Alex Sherwood, Ben Harper and Sean Mullen from Irish animation studio, Giant. It has garnered a lot of accolades including an Irish Film & Television Academy award for Best Animation.
The heightened sounds and realistic textures grip you for the start. The shipwrecked fisherman fights his way through a storm and clouded memory. He takes shelter in a dimly lit refuge. And as he slowly remembers, the scenes alternate between beautiful tones of blues and reds before culminating in a sobering conclusion.
The idea for the film came from a chat we had when we first started the studio. We all decided we wanted to try make a short film that pushed animation out of it’s comfort zone and towards something more mature and cinematic.— Sean Mullen, newstalk.com
