  1. In Their Own Words – Jameela Wahlgren

    Welcome loungers! We’re kicking off November with the launch of an exciting new feature – ‘In Their Own Words’. For this regular slot, we’re inviting illustrators from across the globe to share their creative journey and inspirations. Our first ITOW post was written by US-based illustrator, Jameela Wahlgren.

  2. Mary Kate McDevitt

    Mary Kate McDevitt is a freelance illustrator and letterer based in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She has worked with clients including Chronicle Books, Sesame Street, Nintendo, Penguin Books, Nike, O Magazine, and Mental Floss.

  3. John R. Neill (1877 – 1943)

    John Rea Neill was a magazine and children’s book illustrator, best known for his exceptional run on the The Oz series. He Illustrated more than forty stories set in the Land of Oz, earning him the title of the Royal Illustrator of Oz.

  4. Frank Modell

    September 6th, 1917, saw the birth of Frank Modell. September 6th, 2015, saw him celebrate his 98th birthday. Born in Philadelphia, a twenty-something Modell would head to nearby Atlantic City where he would work as a beach artist. Around the same time, he would also attend Philadelphia Museum School of Art, studying illustration.

  5. Greg Wright

    Greg Wright is a Philadelphia-based freelance illustrator. A University of the Arts graduate, Wright is the head designer, as well as a contributor, for the t-shirt company, InksterInc. Wright’s work utilises a restrained pallet, often without any shading. His simplified shapes and limited details makes his illustrations ideal for pretty much any product he chooses to put them on. All of which combines to make his Society6 shop off-limits for me, and only fit for those who have some self-control, or deep pockets.

  6. Lydia Nichols

    Philadelphia-based Lydia Nichols is a illustrator, typographer, designer, and teacher (and anthropomorphizer). After an intern at Pixar, Ms Nichols started freelancing. Some of her notable clients including Bloomberg Businessweek, Chronicle Books, Google UK and MailChimp. She has also taught at MICA and Moore, as well a providing a class for Skillshare.

  7. Kevin Mercer

    Continuing with our designer/illustrator theme, I present the work of Kevin Mercer. As a freelancer Mr Mercer’s past projects include advertising, editorial illustration, book illustration, brand strategy, logo design, packaging and hand drawn type. On top of freelancing he is now teaching Illustration at The University of the Arts.
