Audrey Benjaminsen

Audrey Benjaminsen is a freelance illustrator and designer based in Michigan. She has illustrated for books, playing cards, packaging and designed characters and concepts for advertising. Some of her clients include Hasbro, Simon and Schuster, Passion Pictures and Fantasy Flight Games.

Benjaminsen studied illustration at Ringling College of Art and Design. For 3 years in a row, her work was chosen to be exhibited at the Society of Illustrators annual student exhibition. She contributed to issue 3 and 4 of Ringling College’s collaboratory comic book, Meanwhile. After graduating in 2015, her work was accepted into Spectrum 22: The Best in Contemporary Fantastic Art, receiving 2 awards; Gold award in the Comics category, and Silver award in the Concept Art Category.

Benjaminsen explores darker subject matters inspired by her childhood experiences, dreams and inner battles, giving herself the opportunity to confront and understand them better. She works in a range of mediums including acrylic, watercolor, charcoal, pastel, pen and ink, graphite and colored pencil. Often combined and often enhanced digitally. There is a lot to admire in Benjaminsen’s work, not least is her ability to switch between drawing porcelain beauties that capturing our gaze, to spiked-featured beasties that force us to look away.
