Milton Caniff (1907–1988)

Earning the nickname “the Rembrandt of the comic strip”, Milton Caniff pioneered modern visual story-telling. He brought intelligence, realism, and sensuality into the medium. His loved comic strip Steve Canyon debuted in 1946 and ran for 41 years! Caniff’s charming characters, dramatic angles and brilliant use of chiaroscuro all contribute to his long-lasting influence on comics and the whole of the illustration world.

“The impacts of both picture and words drives more deeply into human awareness than any anthropologist has yet cared to note”
